This pudding is full of ingredients that heal and nourish tired adrenal glands!
What are Adrenal Glands?
Your adrenal glands are 2 triangle-shaped glands that sit atop your kidneys. They are responsible for your stress response – they got you covered with the classic adrenaline rush: rapid heart beat, wide eyes, and a true surge of energy (and dread!).
When your adrenals are activated, you go into a ‘fight or flight’ response to prepare you for stress. The unfortunate (and interesting) thing however, is that your body cannot tell which events are truly LIFE endangering (i.e. eaten by a bear) or just LIFESTYLE endangering (i.e. missing the subway to work). Your adrenals respond in the exact same way. When you are in that ‘fight or flight’ response, other body systems are shut off including digestion and your immune system. Ever notice that people who are chronically stressed have tummy troubles and are also chronically prone to illness? This is why!
Support Those Glands!
If you are one of the many people living a stressful life, your adrenal glands are likely working very hard every day. If they get too tired, their functioning starts to wane. Spend some time giving support to these little guys – nourish them with relaxing and supportive nutrients. Your adrenal glands love vitamin C, vitamin B5, essential fats, and adaptogens (balancing foods + herbs like licorice, maca, ashwaghanda, rhodiola, or holy basil).
I originally found this recipe in Julie Daniluk’s Meals that Heal Inflammation book, but have since had trouble finding it on the web! Ugh…so here is the recipe as I remember it. Taste as you go along, and add more or less of the ingredients you want! I just made a batch with the following quantities, and it is delicious 🙂
Scoop the flesh of the avocado into a blender. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend for about 10 seconds. You will end up with a creamy, chocolatey pudding that is not only packed with nutrition, but is also delicious!
avocado – source of essential fats
hemp seeds – source of omega 3 essential fats
cocoa powder – a great source of magnesium which is very calming for the body and mind
maca powder – a delicious adaptogen which helps balance the adrenals while also improving energy, vitality and libido! It tastes kindof like peanut butter.
sea salt -contains tons of minerals to replenish weak adrenal glands
